On the Sunday following Christmas, our Church celebrates the Solemnity of Humble Shepherds.
The Church invites us to join in with the humble Shepherds and once again embrace the mystery of Christmas, meditate, glorify, and praise God along with them.
“Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.” God wanted the whole world to know that His Son, the Savior.
Jesus Christ is with us in the flesh, so the world would recognize Him, follow Him, and thus be saved. Therefore God chose the poor humble shepherds to be the first witnesses and heralds of this Mystery for this world.
It was a very strange way of advertising to the world the most wonderful miracle of Christmas!
Through the humble shepherds! The Epiphany of the Lord, that is, the revealing process of God’s salvation through our Savior Jesus Christ, goes on for more than two thousand years by witnessing and heralding the miracle of Christmas through the life of humble and simple Christians.
God still does miracles in this “sophisticated” world by choosing humble people to be witnesses and heralds of His power. Great things of God’s measure happen only in a humble way and through humble people. They are the channels of God’s glorious power and love!
