The idea of observing a day in honor of fathers came from the Ladies Society for the Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. They felt that the holiday should be centered on special church services remembering fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and the other men who have guided and protected us. They also felt that is should be a day, like Mother’s Day, when fathers would receive special words of affection and some small gifts from their children. When we think of our fathers, we think of so many things that we learned from them.
To acknowledge this special day, the Adoration Society held a Father’s Day Brunch on Sunday, June 9. Pancakes and sausages were served and everyone enjoyed the companionship of their fellow parishioners. All gents in attendance were entered into a draw for a prize chosen especially for them. The lucky winner of a deluxe lawn chair was Frankie Domiter.

Fathers day 1

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it … Dad
